The State Officers Committee of the Nigerian Medical Association Rivers State paid a courtesy call to the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Ikuinyi Owaji Ibani.
Critical issues were raised and discussed bordering on the welfare of doctors in Rivers State. Notable among them, was a request for the domestication of the Medical Residency Training Act of 2017 in Rivers State. A copy of the act was presented to the Honourable Speaker by the Chairman of the association, Prof. Chizindu Alikor.
Responding, the speaker assured the NMA that the Medical Residency Training Act shall be favourably considered when the bill is presented to the house. The speaker made a firm commitment to the NMA to ensure that the association is given the first ear whenever issues concerning health are deliberated in the house.
He assured doctors of the willingness of the Rivers State House of Assembly, (through the House Committee on Health), to partner with the NMA in tackling issues bearing on the health of Rivers people.
