The chairman of NMA Rivers State, Prof. Chizindu Alikor in the company of members of the State Officers Commitee, paid a courtesy call to the Secretary to the Rivers State Government, Dr. Tammy Danagogo.
Speaking at the visit, the chairman intimated the SSG about various challenges being faced by doctors in the state such as; the need for the domestication of the Medical Residency Training Act, need to employ more manpower into the health sector, need for proper placement/skipping of doctors, payment of grants to Resident doctors, promotion of doctors in the state health service, provision of group life insurance and employee compensation for health workers in Rivers State, payment of COVID 19 inducement allowance, upward review of hazard allowance to 50% of consolidated basic salary for health workers and implementation of state contributory health care scheme with inclusion of private medical facilities as recognised providers. A request was also made for partnership with the State government to carry out free medical/surgical outreaches to various LGAs in the state.
Responding, the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Tammy Danagogo thanked the association for paying his office a visit. He assured the NMA that the executive arm of government has noted the requests of the NMA and that these requests shall be brought before the state executive council. He assured the association of a cordial working relationship between the state government and the NMA.
