ABOUT THE 2019 AGM

The Nigerian Medical Association- Rivers state chapter held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) from the 4TH – 10TH AUGUST 2019.

Its stated events ran smoothly as planned.

Prior to the commencement of the outlined programs, a preparatory event to kick-off the AGM, tagged ”Walk with Doctors” took place at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium, Elekahia. Which Involved Doctors from hospitals across Rivers State.

Marking the opening of the AGM, a thanksgiving service held at First Baptist Church, 93 Aggrey road, Port Harcourt. Where the activities for the coming week were duly placed in the hands of the Almighty God, in retrospect to his unfailing Grace.

The week began with a prompt closed-door Press conference. Holding at the NMA House, it involved several Media houses, Radio stations and a Live Internet stream. In general, the Chairman, Dr Mrs Obelebra Adebiyi highlighted the basics and put into perspective the essential motion behind the AGM, stating clearly the importance of Doctors working in unison.

On the third day, the AGM opened properly. All Protocols were observed.

The Rivers State Governor, His Excellency Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, invited as a Special Guest of Honour was duly represented by his Deputy, Her Excellency Dr Ipalibo Harry Banigo, who also served as the mother of the day. In attendance were; The Keynote Speaker Dr Nnenna Ezeigwe, Dr Francis Adebayo Faduyile (NMA National President), Prof. Nelson Nelson Brambaifa (Acting Managing Director, NDDC), The Chairman, NMA, Rivers State, Dr Mrs Obelebra Adebiyi and a host of others including Doctors, Medical Practitioners and the General Public.

Several Medical products were exhibited by various trusted Pharmaceuticals.

A Scientific Conference took place, with Professors from Varying Medical fields shedding considerable light on different critical Topics that affect the immediate society.

  • Respiratory Symptoms and Lung Function.

The Fifth day of the AGM saw the presentation of the Annual Report, dating from August 2018 – August 2019. Booklets distributed amongst those in attendance showed comprehensive statements on how funds were allocated and spent within and outside the Secretariat of the Nigerian Medical Association, Rivers State Branch. Presented by the Financial Secretary, Dr Olaka W. Ebienju, here he assured the House that all funds generated was used effectively, producing substantial changes in all areas. Evidently, the picturesque state of the NMA Building, Its holding capacity and Jolly nature of its Staff cannot be overlooked.

The Sixth day saw a host Doctors carry out several Free Medical exercises at designated Hospitals/Locations within Port Harcourt and its environs. Medical advice, diagnoses were rendered, drugs were administered and distributed at no cost at all. At the Apex of the Outreach were Surgical Operations carried out on patients, especially those who are less privileged. This further solidifies Patient-Doctor Confidence.

To round up an exciting and eventful AGM 2019, a Dinner Party was held strictly for Doctors and R.S.V.P Guests at Jevenik Place GRA Phase 2. There, the week-long AGM was concluded, and the Vote Of Thanks was given by the Secretary, NMA Rivers State, Dr Diamond Tamunokuro, Acknowledging Special Guests, Doctors, Corporate sponsors, media houses and the general public for the successful completion of the 2019 NMA AGM.
