THE SECRETS OF PORT HARCOURT

THE SECRETS OF PORT HARCOURT

Port Harcourt also called Pitakwa is the capital of the Rivers State which is the treasure base of Nigeria. Port Harcourt prides itself as the oil capital of the nation, with oil making over 80% of the nation’s economy. Port Harcourt also prides itself as the third largest city in Nigeria.

Now secrets you don’t know about Port Harcourt.

• Port Harcourt is as secured as any other state in Southern Nigeria if not even more. However for some sociopolitical reasons, it’s painted in a way that soothes the political elites, most of which do not reside in the State.

• Port Harcourt is highly developed. Communication with the outside world is easy whether through the seaport or airport.

• Port Harcourt was created with the aim of doing business and remains the best place to start business in Nigeria. Minimal competition, high spending power of the residents and good communication with the outside world remains favourable factors. Most business moguls won’t tell you this because it’s a secret. You can ask Genesis, Everyday Supermarket and M.Saleh to confirm.

• The hospitality of Riverians cannot be compared with any other. As a matter of fact, Port Harcourt is the only city in Nigeria where you’ll be welcomed even in the streets with English (the lingua Franca of Nigeria). Every other city, a taxi driver, road seller etc would be so fast to speak a vernacular to you as if everyone must understand the native language.

• Finally, so as not to make this post boring. Without the above secrets being considered, Port Harcourt was still chosen to host the Fifth Nigerian Medical Association Games #PH2020 from 17th to 23rd February, 2020.

THE STORY OF THALIDOMIDE

THE STORY OF THALIDOMIDE

It’s true that Thalidomide is involved in the primary aetiology of Phocomelia. Phocomelia is a congenital condition that involves malformation of the upper and lower extremities usually making them smaller than normal.

In the history of the NMA Doctors’ Games, it has been recorded that Acquired PseudoPhocomelia was possible as was experienced in Jalingo and Abeokuta when the SouthEasterners brought the agent called Thalidomide, and guess what, almost every other volleyballer acquired the Pseudophocomelia via professional spikes and smashes. You can ask the Southsouthern volleyball teams of the 3rd and 4th editions of NMA Games to confirm.

It got real bad with victories that were flawless and uncontested that the officials had to ask Thalidomide to prove he was a member of the Hippocratic cord. Guess what, he was truly a member, he returned for the next round and was fatal than ever.

The SouthEasterners are relentless and still promises to bring Thalidomide to Port Harcourt 2020.

It’s about to begin!

Come and see for yourself.

Draught OR Checkers – 36 Days to #PH2020 Opening Ceremony

Draught OR Checkers – 36 Days to #PH2020 Opening Ceremony

The Draught, otherwise called Checkers is another mind sport with ancient roots.

The earliest form was a game discovered in an archeological dig at Ur in Iraq.

Carbon dating makes it appear that it was played around 3000 BC but with a slightly different board and pieces.

By 1100,a Frenchman got the idea of playing the game on a chess board. It was then called “Fierges” or “Ferses”.

Making jumps mandatory made the game more challenging. This version was called “Jeu force”.
The older version was considered more of a social game for women and was called “Le Jeu Plaisant DE Dames”.

The rules were set and the game exported to England and America.
Books were written on the game in Spain as early as mid 1500s’ and in England ,a mathematician, William Payne wrote his own treatise on Draughts in 1756.
Through the years, it has retained its popularity.

In 1847,the first world championship was awarded.
The 1st program to be put on a computer was created in 1952 by Arthur L. Samuel.

I’m Africa, it has been dated to be played as far back as the sixteenth century.

Today, the game is as healthy as ever. The game provides:
– good training in logic and thought
– memory recall
– concentration
– sound judgement
– decision making
– problem solving
– lowers blood pressure
– reduces stress
– boosts your immune system.

Draught would be played in #PH2020

Don’t miss it!
